Being Natural on a Budget

10:00 AM

If you shop in the "Multicultural" hair care section, you know how expensive hair care products are. Even if you don't shop in that particular section, hair care in general can get really pricey. Fortunately, there are quite a few things you can do to lessen the blow on your wallet.

Buy on Sale

This one is pretty obvious. If you see that Carol's Daughter line on sale in the Sunday paper, you know what you need to do. Get it! It is usually, if not always, the best time to get products. Think about it: 5-15% off of what you would usually pay for. Sounds like a good deal.

Utilize Coupons

Many natural hair care brands put great coupons in the newspaper or online. At many stores, you can use your coupons with an on-sale item. So, not only do get that 5-10% off but you get $1-5 off additionally.

Look for Alternatives to Your Usual Products

I know you might really like that $30+ leave-in conditioner from that really expensive brand, but there are so many great alternatives that are super affordable. Also, keep in mind that a lot of new hair care brands are out right now looking for customers in order to grow their brands.

Try New Things

There is a lot of hype around brands such as Shea Moisture, Carol's Daughter, Ms. Jessie's, etc. All of which are great brands with great products (because no shade) but sometimes, they are heavily overpriced. Personally, I just got tired of spending a lot of my money on products that I really didn't like or even need. I decided to try something new, which happens to be Cantu products. I'm going to keep in 100 with y'all. I love Cantu products and they have truly worked wonders on my hair. (#notsponsored)

Make Your Own Products

This tip requires some work and elbow grease, but it can really down the cost of buying products. Check youtube or other bloggers for tips and tutorials on making your own leave-in conditioners, hair oils, shampoos, hair gels, and so much more. Plus, many of the products may be better for your hair than other products from the store.

Saving money on hair care can be really difficult, especially when you're trying to embrace your natural hair. Hopefully, you will try some of these tips and save a few dollars. If you do, feel free to contact me via my many social media pages.
