BecomingBria's Guide to Summer School

3:45 PM

Ugh. School during the summer. Whether you're in middle school, high school, or college, summer school sucks. However, it doesn't have to completely suck. There are ways to make the experience better. Now, that doesn't mean getting away with not doing any work or missing class. That 6 page essay is unavoidable! But it does mean that getting through the next 6-8 weeks should be a little bit easier to handle. Now, I never went to summer school in junior high or high school so summer school is new to me. But I think my college experience should be a little bit similar.
With that said, let's get right into it.

Have a Positive Outlook

Positivity is going to be your greatest support while trying to get through summer school. Reminding yourself why you're there is really important. For me, I try to remind myself that I'm in summer school to better myself and get ahead in school. And that works for me. It's a little hard at first but if you keep doing it, it'll come naturally.

Talk to Your Teachers

If after a couple of weeks you start struggling to keep up with the class, talk to your teachers. They can give you tips and advice on how to pass their class. No one knows how to pass a class better than a teacher. Talking to teachers can be intimidating, but if you're honest with your teachers about what's going on they are more likely to be understanding and help you out.

Actually Do the Work

Like I said before, this guide will not show you how to get away with not doing any work. I'm actually trying to promote the idea of doing work. Most of the time, all summer school asks of you is to do the work. Read the textbook, write the paper, and take notes. It can get a little boring after a while, but it will be worth it if you pass the class.

Find Your Comfort Zone

When it comes to studying you need to find a place that makes it easy for you to focus. So your bed may not be the best place. Try your school or local library. If you have an office in your home, that could be a good place too. A coffee house is a really good place if you like white noise and..coffee of course. Or try to make your desk a comfortable place for you to study. No matter where you choose, make sure it's a place that you can get some work done.

Use Tumblr. for Inspiration

Now this may be an odd tip because Tumblr. is a well known distractor but it you follow the right people you can find the motivation to study or at least get some work done. I like to follow the tags studyblr and languageblr. The studyblr tag shows be a bunch of other people that are studying and even some tips similar to this guide. Now the languageblr is for me to find other people studying languages. Making it great for finding different ways to study Japanese. Tumblr. can be your inspiration to learn something or teach you something new.

If you follow these tips and work really hard, you should do awesome this summer! And remember, "Push yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you".
